Has anyone ever heard of the Bajo people? I heard they are 'sea gypsies' who live all their lives on houseboats at sea and are some of the best natural free divers in the world. They live in the South Phillippines and Sabah Malaysia, around sipadan and such resorts. Sounds fascinating and I would love to find out if you can visit such communities when on a dive holiday - but haven't found anything on the net to that effect. any one know any more or can point me in the right direction?

HI the Bajau laut originate from the phillippines and transverse the sulu sea over to borneo. They do everything from thei boat and dont like being on land as they get land sick :-)

if you type in lepa-lepa you will find out all about their festival based in Sabah where they show off their boats. The guys living off semporna near sipadan can be seen growing seaweed.
