Hi All,

Me and my girlfriend are travelling to an Island called Koh Tao off the east coast of Thailand in August 2005 to study for our divemaster and possibly instructor. Has anyone been there and if so do you have any advice or recommendations?

Many Thanks

I've been to Tao three or four times now and the diving is as good as it gets in the Gulf of Thailand. There is a around 40 dive shops to choose from so have a good scout around. Sairee village is nice and a pal of mine Gary Bain runs Siam divers which offer some good deals on Divemaster courses. As long as your prepared to put the effort in your do well out of it. I did my instructor course in Pattaya where they also offer complete training packages and have loved every minute of it.

Koh Tao is a great place to do your DM course. You've basically got the choice of chilled beach or party beach, and big dive school or small dive school. Big ones are good for meeting a lot of people and jumping on loads of courses easily, small ones better for having instructors take a more personal interest in your training, and a more chilled life!
Small school I would recommend Davy Jones Locker in Mae Haad, you can save 5% on the course as well by booking on their website: www.techdivethailand.com
Big schools I would recommend Buddha View, Asia Divers, or Big Blue.
I saw this is an old thread but no doubt people still looking for dm/koh tao info (2nd largest cert place in the world after all...!).
